What I Do

I’m a San Francisco based freelancer with over ten years experience in video editing and motion graphics.

My work has ranged from high-impact corporate event video to web advertising, from point-of-sale to TV docs, and from training video to music video.

As my experience has increased, I’ve started taking more jobs as a post production director or art director, and I hope to continue moving in that direction.

I can work in your facility, on my own system in San Francisco, or on my mobile edit system. I can be available for short-term gigs in LA, Las Vegas, Tokyo (I have an apartment there) or other cities. I’m currently working on getting a Japanese work visa, and trying to make connections in Hong Kong.

Biography

Originally from Kansas City, I studied art history, design and film at the University of Kansas before embarking on a career in video production. After a couple of years working in the the Midwest, I was drawn to Dot Com San Francisco in 1998 by alluring tales of fabulous wealth and creativity. I’ve been working here for nine years now with a range of top corporate clients (see list at right.)

When I’m not doing corporate video production, I pursue a second life as an event producer, curator and video performance artist. I’m also a partner in the music video DVD label Lightrhythm Visuals. I often work on projects in the corporate and advertising world that draw on these artistic experiences.

Work Philosophy

As far as work and personality style go, I’m comfortable in directed edit sessions, but I can also work independently or manage groups.

As a designer, art director, writer or story editor, my creative approach begins with understanding the client’s needs and how the audience will respond. From that foundation, I try to find an elegant solution that communicates the needed information while creating the desired impression.

I approach the engineering side of video production as a scientist, pursuing quality and efficiency. I’ve had experience in dozens of post environments and have been responsible for purchase and design decisions in several. As a consultant in this area, I can provide specific vendor-neutral advice that can save your company thousands of dollars in misdirected funds.
